DJ Kenny Scan has been going back to Jamaica for years—Stone Love parties, dancehalls across Kingston, Irie FM, the Bob Marley Museum, studios and famous spots across the island, along with a lasting connection to the King Crown DJ crew in Spanish Town. Simply Irie exists because of that relationship with Jamaica, not as a themed playlist assembled from far away. Stone Love is one of the station’s major influences, and that sound-system lineage—along with the energy of the dancehalls and the people Kenny has met there—shapes the station’s ear.
